Why Horse
Council?
Horse Council is a group of concerned horse owners and equine
enthusiasts who are joined together to support the horse way of life in
the mountain area of Jefferson Council via a three pronged approach.
Education: providing speakers and presentations on topics of interest to
the horse owner; including fire, large acreage management, health and
travel.
Activities: to promote the presence of the horse in the mountain region
and provide horse owners with fun and safe experience. The 2007 Poker
Ride was an excellent example of this. Over 50 horses and their owners
enjoyed a day out on the trails of Alderfer Three Sisters. Money was
raised to support the special needs programs of the Recreation
District. And many hikers and bikers at Alderfer reported that they
enjoyed seeing the horses out on the trails.
Advocacy: be the voice to the local, state and national community
representing the interests of the equine community. This includes
everything from working to keep local trails open to horses to educating
members about national issues that affect horse owners.
